Beauty born from the direct touch of brush and canvas
Corry Zondergeld

Education and Artistic Roots
Artistic Vision & Expression

“Beauty emerges from the direct contact between brush and canvas.” Corry Zondergeld’s paintings exude a rare intimacy. With a refined sensibility for color, texture, and form, she creates abstract works that carry a silent, meditative power. Her art balances the tangible and the elusive, evoking inner landscapes that speak to universal themes as transience, silence, space, and memory. The layered depth of her compositions mirrors a rich internal world, bringing together stillness and movement in artistic mastery.
Education & Formative Development

Born in Rotterdam in 1970, Corry Zondergeld completed her artistic training in 1994 at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where part of her final exam work was exhibited in the then Municipal Museum (now Kunstmuseum Den Haag). After graduating, she delved deeply into realism, honing her drawing skills and anatomical knowledge through intensive sketching sessions in anatomical theaters of various medical faculties where she produced hundreds of life studies of the human body in its raw essence. From 2007 to 2010, she studied the classical alla prima (wet-on-wet) technique under maestro Matthijs Röling. This spontaneous method perfectly aligns with her intuitive working style; while she primarily paints with brushes, she occasionally employs a palette knife to add texture and depth. Her oeuvre is defined by palpable sensitivity and powerful simplicity, always seeking silence, essence, and the human presence in its most fundamental form.
